This is a great project! It's similar to postsecret but specific to body image. Hope you don't mind but I'm going to post a link to your site on my blog.
It is a great project. This tag is interesting to me because it's full of very positive body images and positive thoughts about the relative unimportance of clothes. I had similarly positive things to say when I was a size 6 like the person who sent this one in. Now that I am a size 12, it is much more difficult to say things like "I am not concerned with my size or weight, only with my health." I hate to admit that, too. I'd like to be a good feminist who is above all that.
in this society - we are BOMBARDED with very very skinny people everywhere we go. even though i AM a size 6, it never feels thin enough - or perfect enough - we have to remember that the people we see on tv and in magazines are prepped for hours or starved to look the way they do. look at all of the women in hollywood who have a baby and then are back to size zero practically on their way home form the hospital. THIS IS NOT REAL LIFE!i've just started to see a few campaigns (dove soap?) that feature real women with curves, wrinkle and other real imperfections. this is what makes us beautiful AND unique!!!
I would like to invite you to join in A Fitting Experience, a community project that explores how women view their bodies.
The next time you buy clothes, save one paper tag that states
the size of the garment you are purchasing.
While looking at the tag, please reflect on one of the following questions:
How do you feel about your body?
What did you think to yourself about your body when you tried this garment on?
Describe your body size and shape.
Please record your response to the question on the tag, in any form that you choose; feel free to write, draw or alter the tag in any way.
Please send your tag with your response to:
A Fitting Experience,
134 Aspen Rd.,
Kings Park, NY 11754
